Eagle Nest is in
northeastern New Mexico, about 50 miles (by road) south of the Colorado border and 130
miles west of the Texas/Oklahoma borders. It is nestled at the northern end of Moreno
Valley, a high alpine valley 15 miles long and three miles wide located in the majestic
Sangre de Cristo Mountains in southwestern Colfax County. Base elevation of the Valley is
8382 feet with surrounding mountains ranging from 12,441 feet Baldy Peak at the north end
of the Valley to 11,086 feet Agua Fria Peak on the south end of the Valley. The highest
mountain in the State, 13,161 feet Wheeler Peak, forms the northwest boundary of the
Valley. Eagle Nest is 160 miles northeast of Albuquerque, 32 miles east of Taos and 64
miles southwest of Raton.
