RECREATION

Relax. Veg out. Eagle Nest has always been known as a laid-back mountain town-a place to stroll unmolested by traffic, noise and other frenzied signs of city life. The sidewalks and old-fashioned streetlights, park benches and flowerboxes along Eagle Nest's main street (Therma Drive) make a stroll through the village a pleasure. Eagle Nest is a haven for fishermen and other outdoor lovers, and a gateway to the Enchanted Circle. Visitors can stay in Eagle Nest and head for Red River, Angel Fire, Taos, Cimarron or even Santa Fe for sightseeing, golfing, hiking, snow skiing...there are a myriad of possibilities. The Eagle Nest Chamber of Commerce lists local businesses offering outdoor recreation, accommodations, camping, shopping, dining, and more.

SHOPPING
Main Street is less than a mile long, with shops carrying locally-made crafts and fine arts, sculpture, sterling silver jewelry, Indian jewelry, antiques, pottery, candies, fudge, clothing, souvenirs, T-shirts, and much more. Visitors can take a break from shopping in one of the down-home restaurants or grab a cappuccino before heading out for more.

NATURE LOVERS PARADISE
The Village of Eagle Nest, situated on the north shore of majestic Eagle Nest Lake, is a nature lovers paradise. For the camper, backpacker, hiker, or four-wheeler, Eagle Nest is adjacent to the 1.6 million acre
Carson National Forest with easy entry to the Wheeler Peak Wilderness Area.

FISHING
Eagle Nest Lake's 2,200 acres boasts some of the finest trophy fishing for Rainbow and Kokanee salmon in the Southwest. The State Game and Fish Department regularly stocks Eagle Nest Lake with trout, salmon and Snake River Cutthroat. Anglers can fish from the banks or by boat (boat rentals available) and ice fish in the winter. Ice fishing usually begins in January and the first open water fishing usually starts in April.  Stream fishing in nearby Cimarron Canyon State Park also offers a worthwhile challenge to fly and bait anglers.

HUNTING
Eagle Nest is headquarters for what is arguably some of the best big and small game hunting in America. Trophy elk, bear, mountain lion, and deer are taken in both public hunt areas and through professional guide services on private land throughout the area. The Moreno Valley is also well known for spring and fall turkey hunts.
